A lot has been happening



It seems that the busier I am the fewer pictures I take. Here is a quick recap of the last week's happenings. Preparations for the concrete slab happened on Tuesday. There was one day delay because of a late materials delivery and the county required that there be an inspection to make sure that the slab was insulated properly before any concrete was poured. The pour went off very well. We only had a wheel barrow full of concrete left. (Just enough to fill one last core in the block.) I picked some ferns that were growing on a shaded north bank near the creek and laid them into the wet floor. Tim and James did a really nice job on the finish work. The colored concrete, leaf imprints, and saw cuts turned out really nice.

The week finished with John and me taking a very long and bumpy ride from the house site to the barn on a large trenching machine. It was a bit scary at times, especially when going straight down the steep side of the hill. It was really good to get that part of the job done. There were a few spots where the rocks were to much to handle. I'm going to see if I can get Melvin or Pete to come out and finish things up. It will be super helpful to get the temporary power going. Generators are way too noisy.

The framers jumped right on things and at the end of this last week the first floor deck was complete. It is really cool to watch the structure come together.

On The Road Again

Home building has taken a back seat to road building over the past two weeks. And I can tell you -- IT'S A LONG WALK TO THE MAIL BOX! We decided to bring the road up along a contour line instead of shooting straight up the back. It made for a much more manageable slope but added significant length. I can't wait to try a full speed run down the hill on the bike. Hopefully we will get enough snow to try the sled out as well. If you come through town stop by and try it out. Happy motoring!

Aerial Survey

Louisa Aerial Survey flew this week to take pictures for the 2-foot contour topography map. Morris Foster set panels and established control points. Hopefully it will prove to be money well spent as we continue to develop the property. We still have had no measurable rain. The dust and seed particles from the grass and weeds are overwhelming. I must have looked like I was dealing with a bio-hazard as I bush hogged with my hat, mask, and glasses. That would have been a good picture. Our two antique old rusted square balers that Melvin pulled out of the woods now have a new home at Stumps Scrap Yard. The place is looking nicer all the time. The leaves will start changing in the coming week. Hopefully the dry weather won't dilute the fall foliage.
